Natalia Jensen [2007, Jewelry + Metalsmithing]
In addition to my BA in Jewelry and Metalsmithing, I’ve had the opportunity to build up my woodworking skills under some seasoned craftsmen. En Route combines my fascination with manipulating wood with my passion for jewelry making. Much of my work includes wood ‘stones’ that I cut, facet, and paint by hand. Other pieces include agate-like ‘slabs’ that are first laser cut locally, and then faceted and painted by hand as well. Some of my necklaces and earrings include small brass pieces that I’ve formed in my studio and then cast locally. All the metal collars and cuffs are hand formed. Because the majority of my work is brass, almost every piece can be adjusted to the wearer’s specific shape. This is something I am mindful of in my designs, as I believe strongly that jewelry should not be exclusive to one body type. Most of my necklaces follow this principle as well, and can be dramatically adjusted in length and styling. I truly enjoy every second I spend creating this work, and I hope that comes across in my images. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
