Matthew Finger [1991, Illustration]

These mixed media paintings are an exploration of color and texture producing what I refer to as ‘assembled paintings’. I use a variety of materials in the creation of these paintings. The individual elements (all mixed media) are created separately then inlayed in a puzzle-like style. The work is layered in resin and has glassy, tile-like feel. The finished work is framed and ready-to-hang. These pieces hang well in small series or grids. I find inspiration in the world around me; from the patina on a worn boat hull, the texture and color of shells, to the colors in vintage graphic design.
