Gary Heise [1983, Painting]

Heise paints in layers of transparent and opaque ink and watercolor on Chinese rice paper. His subject matter is drawn from nature, and his preliminary work is based on his photography and plein air sketches. Heise wishes the viewer to experience his appreciation and understanding of nature — that everything, from the fleeting aspect of time and weather conditions, to the ancient rocks beneath our feet, are all alive and precious, and yet ever-changing and transient.
