Muffy Brandt [2004, Painting]
Muffy Brandt launched her line in 2007 focusing on of one of a kind and limited edition pieces garments. She makes clothing for babies, kids, and adults, as well as accessories, home decor. Her love of color and pattern is expressed in a mix of fabric techniques included dyeing, printing, hand knitting, machine knitting, and applique. Muffy loves to give herself freedom to work fluidly with pattern and materials to make a range of fun and functional products for all ages and price points. Her line began by hand silk screen printing original designs onto garments. She carefully selects clothes to print on, and takes pride in the fact that many of her adult clothes are customers longtime favorites, and many of her kid’s leggings have become hand me downs.
Wanting to offer more types of items, in 2015 she began hand printing her designs onto yardage. She uses those limited edition fabrics to hand sew accessories including toiletry bags, tote bags, and wide brim vintage style sun hats. Muffy recently began hiring a professional seamstress in Providence to assemble duffel bags sewn using her fabrics. Muffy’s one of a kind pieces include vintage jackets transformed with appliqué and hand knit hats made using luxurious wool yarns. She also offers cast metal necklaces and keychains inspired by Halloween witch fingers her childhood. She hand polishes each jewelry piece, hand paints the enamel, and hand sets each stone. The rough castings are made locally by a 2nd generation family owned casting company in RI.
