Alisen Herman [1990, Graphic Design]
Alisen has emerged through the flames of fighting cancer and is continuing to explore different firing techniques and how the elements of earth, air and fire react in gas reduction, salt, and wood kilns. Lucious surfaces emerge as a result of the vapor in the atmosphere of the salt kiln, while the carbon tints the pots with iridescence in all three kilns. Playfulness and asymmetry continue in her work through the alteration of round pots from the wheel, either by stretching the clay walls or combining forms to create larger vessels. As she evolves her artistic voice, surface design continues to be important in her work, with the application of nautilus design symbolizing her own growth and renewal. Alisen continues to share her passion for design and ceramics with her students of all ages.
