I’m a first-generation undergraduate student working towards my Architecture degree. Last winter, I created a series of 13 clocks titled “Reminders” for a winter session class. This work was centered on exploring a variety of materials, the consideration of how materials age, and how that process of aging can act as a measure of time.

Materials often carry associations based on our lived experiences. When we encounter these materials, they often remind us of specific moments in time. By transforming a familiar functional object, Reminders asks us to consider our relationship with time and materials.

After my winter session course, I went on to show this series at the World’s Fair Gallery in Providence, RI in the spring of 2016. Since that show, I have continued creating more clocks, with varying materials and forms.

Most recently, I have started a new series based on found objects and discarded materials collected on the beach near my home. These found objects and materials, once used for other purposes, are now recycled into something new. These materials also remind us of a past life, now reborn with a different meaning, reminding us of the past, while notifying us of the future.
