Alayka Seputra [2026, Industrial Design]

Alayka Seputra is an designer & artist, whose work spans user-centered design, woodworking, painting, and writing, aiming to create physical manifestations of her psyche. In creating objects that reflect an Indonesian woman who has had the privilege of pursuing a Western design education, she now integrates her cultural awareness with her urge to create with a continued emphasis on touch, labor, and curiosity; particularly through Northeastern wood as a primary material.

Through the Asmara collection, she presents objects that are meant to accompany you through any space, from your home to where you travel.

From large-scale furniture like a one-of-a-kind coffee table, and a tall, Dutch-colonial inspired room partition… to small, portable trinkets like bag charms and accessories. Each item is crafted with care and intention, meant to represent Alayka’s inspiration from Indonesian textiles from the cultures of respective regions of her heritage.

From getting ahold of an object from Asmara, you carry Asmara and the careful curation of Indonesian culture with you. Asmara cannot simply be translated to just love, passion, or deep affection. It is to picture the feeling of love that is not only felt, but given with full intention and endurance. With this collection, I hope to reclaim and reframe “Made in Indonesia” into Designed by an Indonesian.
