Alessia Arregui [2015, Glass]
Soda Glass House is a Providence, RI based design studio specializing in hand blown glass tableware, designed objects and lighting. Alessia Arregui (RISD ’15) and Jon Watanabe (MASSART ’08), both award winning designers, have combined their complimentary skill sets and resources to found this new industrial design house. Our unique approach to craftsmanship synthesizes centuries-old tools and techniques with modern technology, like 3-D printing and modeling to fabricate custom molds and forms that set our drinkware apart. By design, Soda has made a departure from factory conveyor belt – high volume production techniques that leave you with what feels like a run-of-the-mill machine made product. While cleanly and expertly made, one can see and feel the craftsmanship that went into what we make. Our glassware is hand-blown and hand-opened in small batches, and each and every product is individually made one at a time. Soda merges the preciousness of fine Italian glass with the utilitarian functionality of Northern European and Scandinavian glass. Our work is recognized and supported by the Windgate-Lamar fellowship of the Center for Craft as well as the Rhode Island based RIXDesign Catalyst program.
