Alisen Herman [1990, Graphic Design]

Since studying at RISD and admiring art throughout my life, I have explored many mediums and have been intrigued about the process of ideation through creation. This curiosity led me from foundation disciplines, life drawing and graphic design to the four dimensional possibilities of clay. Making a departure from a 25+ year graphics and marketing career, I have found my passion in creating ceramics and firing in gas kilns which create an atmospheric environment. I’ve dedicated time to dive into research, experimentation, innovation and learning. I also share my time with my students, teaching them everything I learn from my journey. Focusing on two artistic outcomes, functional and decorative Judaic pottery, I envision and create objects that feed others, feed myself and feed the soul. My goal is to share handmade ceramic art in objects that bring meaning to one’s every day and spiritual life.
