My name is Amelia Greteman and I am a textile artist and furniture designer based in Providence Rhode Island. My textile work is comprised of quilts and other household objects like pillows, floor cushions, and even dog beds! The language used within my quilts is geometric and precise, while the color schemes and compositions are bold and expressive. The act of quilting itself inspires me. It is meticulous, slow, and even meditative. A big part of my process is taking traditional quilt blocks that a lot of us may recognize, and altering them to fit my personal visual language. Another important part of my process is distilling my color schemes. All of my fabrics are hand dyed by me, which allows me to have more control over my hues. Quilting has been in my family for over a century, and is a craft that I deeply admire and respect. It holds histories within our communities and families, and is something I always look forward to talking about with strangers.
