Anika Marsh [2024, Painting]
As a recent graduate from RISD, living in Providence RI, pursuing a career as an oil painter, I enjoy painting a mix between realist and impressionistic method of painting. I reference and produce paintings from photographs that I either took with a Nikon camera in Providence, or bought from Wildlife Reference Photos for Artists (wildlifereferencephotos.com). I’m fascinated with birds. Regardless of if the bird is native to Rhode Island or not, I research and pay close attention to each kind of bird, such as the colors they display, their behaviors, their flight pattern, their songs, and personality. I aim to give these birds their liveliness and voice through experimentation in the painting process so that the image can be in dialogue with the surface and oil paint. I make original oil paintings.
