Ann Rozhon [1977, Sculpture]
These pieces represent a continuation of the sculptural work I’ve been pursuing since I left RISD. This newest direction employs a lower relief modality which allows further exploration of the tension created between the paint or encaustic and the three-dimensional surface. The rough outer edges contribute to the sensation of memory salvaged and give them a desired theatricality. My process for creating the work is 1. model in clay 2. mold in rubber 3. cast in plaster, cloth, wood, and paper, then paint or encaustic.
