Anna Rose Mleczko [2012, Photography]

My work transforms organically found materials—sea glass, stones, and shoreline remnants collected on Block Island—into refined, functional objects for the home and everyday life. Living year-round in a small but resilient island community deeply informs both my process and aesthetic. Each piece begins with materials shaped by the ocean and time, then reimagined through intentional design and craftsmanship.

Drawing on my education through the Rhode Island School of Design and hands-on research within my local and RISD communities, I developed a proprietary system for drilling stone and sea glass underwater. This self-created process allows me to preserve the integrity and natural beauty of each material while making it fully functional. No two pieces are ever the same—each object retains its own history, texture, and form.

I create high-end, sculptural hardware including door knobs, pulls, finials, hooks, bookends, and candle holders, as well as smaller wearable and utilitarian objects. My home hardware is increasingly sourced by interior designers and featured in showrooms, galleries, and private residences. On Block Island, where summer tourism brings over 30,000 visitors per day, I also design drilled, hand-selected stones and seaglass fitted to raw brass carabiners, functioning as keychains, jewelry or swim clips—objects that are secure, intuitive, and deeply sentimental. I sell thousands of these annually at the Block Island Farmer’s Market.

All pieces are hand-selected, hand-drilled, and assembled in my studio. Customers are often invited to participate in the design process at my table or in galleries, creating a personal connection to each object. My work balances function and beauty, combining raw coastal materials with clean, elevated hardware. With consistent pricing ($45–$75 per knob; keychains starting at $40), strong inventory capacity, and the ability to produce both ready-made and custom work efficiently, my practice is both artistically grounded and commercially proven.
