Cynthia Director is an American designer who divides her time between New Delhi and New York City. Her studio practice is inspired by the crafts of India. She is inspired by travel, nature, color and art. Her process begins with sketches, linocut prints, painting and drawings. Once these are refined, she will develop patterns and layouts. She works collectively with artisans that produce her collections. This year she focused on block printing and indigo dyeing. Non-toxic chemical dyes, and natural dyes are used. All base fabrics are natural fibers such as cotton, cotton/linen, and linen. Her collection at RISD Craft includes soft textiles for living and dining.
