Docksmith is a company that started with a gift for my aunt who loves the beach and her iPhone. Each piece is different and handcrafted by my husband and me. We work as a team through the whole process. Gathering material along the beaches, tidal rivers and estuaries in Maine by boat and truck is our first step. It’s like a treasure hunt to find gorgeous, sun bleached pieces of driftwood. Our woodshop is tucked away in a barn at a boatyard, dogs and salty sailors coming and going. We read each piece of wood to determine how to flatten, and work each piece to hold smartphones and tablets. In the office, photography, marketing, orders, wiring and shipping happen amongst all the other duties of running a small business. The cables are sourced from a distributer in the US, all the cables are MFI and the highest quality we can buy. We have made thousands of these docking stations and we are always thrilled to bring them out to fairs for face to face sales. Stepping foot onto Providence streets is always a highlight of my year too.
