Elana Carello [1984, Apparel Design]
Elana Carello creates whimsical, artistic and uniquely patterned knitwear that makes people smile. She loves designing sweaters because she gets to design every aspect of the garment. For her, designing sweaters is the closest an apparel designer comes to fine art; she doesn’t just paint on the canvas, she creates the canvas. Elana Carello wants her sweaters to be wearable art in the most tasteful way – to feel good as well as make the wearer look good and feel joy. She designs, fits, and creates every aspect of the collection, knitting each style in small batches, Elana Carello sweaters are only sold at small, artisanal shows.
As her brand evolves, Elana has expanded to be more inclusive across sizes and genders. Her work has been worn by Mindy Kaling on The Mindy Project and featured in Never Have I Ever. Her latest collection combines advanced technical skill with the bold and witty design sensibility for which she is known.
