‘CHAZAN! Unfiltered’, the locally produced graphic novel about the adventures of Dr Joe Chazan, Nephrologist and Art Philanthropist, illustrated by Erminio Pinque and published by NeverEnoughBooksRI. . I designed the concept of the book, laid out, penciled, inked, and employed watercolor and markers to color the pages.. The book’s newly formed publishing company, neverenoughbooksri.com, is the recipient of NIEA and the Independent Publisher Book Awards. CHAZAN! is currently for sale in some independent local bookstores and serves as an example of how a project can evolve from concept to finished product presented in the ‘marketplace’. Fifty pages of artwork from the book were on exhibit at the WaterFire Arts Center Gallery from Sept 15-Oct 24, 2021 and there are plans to conduct a presentation for the RISD community in Jan or Feb 2022. I was trained as an illustrator over 3 decades ago at RISD but have worked primarily as a performing artist since then, using my drawing skills to design 3-D costumes and props. Working on this Graphic Novel has given me an opportunity to reclaim my love for the medium and inspired me to begin work on my own illustrated publications.
