Ian Henderson [2002, Jewelry + Metalsmithing]
My work hybridizes the forms of the ancient and the industrial, the animal and the vegetable, the threatening and the alluring. I make Jewelry from materials normally used in electrical work, such as aluminum grounding wire and rubber insulation sheathing. I use simple processes to produce surprisingly delicate shapes, by hand-cutting each segment of a design and layering it onto forged metal. The forms emerge naturally from this incremental, growth-like process, and resemble sea creatures, plants, and insect parts.
