Jacqueline Qiu [2022, Textiles]
Jacqueline Qiu is a recent graduate from RISD, now based in Brooklyn, New York. Her paintings and textiles express light and structures of the observed world. Often focusing on interiors, figures, and nature to embrace the familiar and the mundane as splendid and poignant. Jacqueline will be showcasing weavings, tapestries, and paintings in oil, acrylic and collage, and watercolor and gouache. The original pieces and giclee prints of the works will be on display. The giclee prints are made with a local artist and printer near Jacqueline’s hometown in New Jersey. These prints are a way to share the pieces with a wider audience. Jacqueline also experiments with translating textiles into printed form. Much of her tapestry and woven work is first conceived through drawing and painting, then woven and dyed to mimic paint strokes, drawn lines, and traditional printmaking methods. Translation of the final textile art form back into prints on paper creates magical illusions of mark making and unique textures achieved from this layered making process. The quality of the prints is impeccable, designed and signed with care, allowing multiple people to connect to the same piece.
