Ceramic dogs have always been in my subconscious since visiting my grandparents when I was little. They had beautiful large porcelain ones that were just out of reach for me as a kid. So it came as no surprise that after sharing a studio with a ceramist, I started making clay sculptures of dogs. Beginning at my workbench with a simple handful of stoneware clay, I smooth and pinch until I am satisfied I have captured the personality of the specific breed. Just changing the smallest detail can make all the difference. I love seeing the smiles on peoples faces when they find my work at shows and galleries, which is why I’ve been at it for over 17 years.
