Julia Samuels [2015, Printmaking]
I am a printmaker and I work mostly in relief prints: woodcuts and linocuts. I produce everything myself in my own printshop here in Providence, Overpass Projects. The unifying theme of my work is mankind’s effect on the natural landscape, and nature’s ability to preserve. In the last several years I have focused on local neighborhoods of Providence, showcasing the history of the city through its complicated web transmission lines. The power lines symbolize our individual connections to Global Warming while providing detailed and intricate compositions. I look forward to RISD Craft every year as my favorite opportunity to share my work with the local community. I love the outdoor setting because it allows my work to be seen by people who may never venture into a traditional gallery.
