Julia Samuels [MFA 2015, Printmaking]

My work is based in printmaking where I have devoted most of my practice to woodcut and linocut as well as intaglio etching. My woodcuts are intricately carved landscapes (many of Providence neighborhoods) that focus on in the manufactured influence on the world we live in, where with no human figure in the composition the influence of industrialism cannot be ignored. My recent intaglio work focuses on cataloging the expanse of coloring possibilities available through the layering process, and was inspired by my collaborative print work with other artists. My website, overpassprojects.com, showcases both my own personal work and work I publish collaboratively with many other RISD Alumni. This sale is always an exciting opportunity to meet new people and share my work with the community. I always look forward to the opportunity to make new connections at RISD Craft!
