Katherine Rudolph [2009, Jewelry/Metalsmithing]
My jewelry is inspired by architectural forms. When looking to the skyline I isolate specific buildings and deconstruct them with an interest in understanding their logic/order. I strive for crisp, geometric forms, and explore possibilities of repetition. Paper models translate well into thin gauge silver and 18k gold sheet metal, which I score and fold into crisp forms. This technique allows for voluminous yet lightweight designs. Pops of color are added through the use of stones and oxidation is used for contrast and depth.
