Kelsey Robinson [2004, Sculpture]
Kelsey Robinson makes mostly hand-built sculptural and functional ceramic vessels, sometimes utilizing the potter’s wheel for a portion of a piece. These forms are decorated with bold textures or patterns inspired by the natural world. Kelsey’s work is made using a variety of techniques; overlapping ribbon layers, arranging hand manipulated cutouts or softened clay that has been whipped into a buttercream consistency and piped with a cake decorators piping bag. Underglazes are used to create more graphic patterns and contrast to play on shapes, while the texture of other pieces is highlighted with more monochromatic glazes in natural tones.
