Laurelin Sitterly 03 IL
I use liquid watercolors and ink to create vibrant, colorful illustrations of at-risk plant and animal species, particularly those that are less well known or, like many reptile species, considered less charismatic. I often connect with scientists or conservation organizations while researching subjects to help create aesthetic yet accurate pieces. As an educator and artist, it is important to me that my work can be accessible and available to as many people as possible, so while I may occasionally offer originals, my work is primarily available as reproductions. To help do this I work with Iolabs in East Providence to create high quality archival prints of my pieces as well as a line of vinyl stickers and a limited number of smaller accessories like buttons or enamel pins. My goal is to connect people to species or habitats through my work, fostering an affinity that can ultimately lead to small conservation-based behavior changes or considerations.
