Laurelin Sitterly [2003, Illustartion]

I use ink and liquid watercolors to create vibrant, colorful illustrations of at-risk plant and animal species, particularly those that are less well-known to the general public or are considered less popular. I regularly collaborate with scientists and conservation organizations while researching subjects – frequently reptiles, amphibians, insects, and carnivorous plants – and their highly specialized habitats. Being both an educator and artist, my goal is to foster affinities between the viewer and these species, ultimately leading to conservation-based behavior changes and consideration of their environments. I offer affordable, high quality and locally printed archival prints, attractive and versatile vinyl stickers, and small quantities of fun accessories such as buttons, reusable drink kits and enamel pins. My goal is to connect people to species or habitats through my work, fostering an affinity that can ultimately lead to small conservation-based behavior changes or considerations. All of my work is created and packaged with minimal waste generation in mind and, whenever possible, I utilize local or small businesses.
