Lee Ann Scotto Adams [2003, Illustration]
Lee Ann Scotto Adams (b. 1981) is a RI-based artist and arts administrator. She paints gestural landscapes, real and imagined, and her work is influenced by American realism and the great post-war representational painters; Fairfield Porter, Lois Dodd and Alex Katz. She has exhibited her work widely, including recent features in exhibitions at RI Art League, Overlap Gallery, South County Art Association, the Providence Art Club, AS220, and a solo show at Michael Rose Fine Art Project Space. She previously served as an awards judge for the Providence Art Club Members’ Show.
Scotto Adams frequently paints suburban houses in Rhode Island and surrounding New England and uses the concept of home to represent a psychological state in her work. She often works in an alla prima technique on paper to capture the immediacy of a sensation. She uses visible brushstrokes and works quickly in oil to evoke a contained freedom; an expansive state of mind contained within a structure.
