Lisa Limer [1977, Photography]
As a wearable fiber artist, my process is the following: #1 I design my own textile patterns from a personal archive of photographs taken on assignment in over 40 countries during the years when I was professional magazine photographer for exclusive national and international magazines. #2 Once I have abstracted and transformed these photographs into detailed and colorful fabric patterns that intrinsically relate to the specific destination that was their initial inspiration, I digitally print the patterns onto 100% silk in New York. #3 The fabric arrives to my studio in Rhode Island where I sew the fabric into a streamlined collection of accessories and apparel: luxurious silk scarves, reversible 100% cashmere/silk wraps, made to order silk robes and alpalca coats that I design and line in my signature silks. I love the sensuality of the silk, its vibrancy and the ability to tell a story through the patterns I create about the wonders of travel.
