Benjamin Herndon [2016, Printmaking]
I completed my MFA at RISD in Printmaking in 2016, after which I stayed in Providence and devoted myself to developing my painting practice. Using hand-made graphite paint, my work’s exploration of light and darkness has become increasingly minimal and reductive. The work I’ve submitted shows some of my latest works on paper — both limited edition prints and original, minimal graphite drawings, some of which served as studies for larger graphite paintings in my studio. These drawings use a very similar process to my paintings. The only works not made entirely by me are the two lithographs photographed together, which were drawn by hand on plates and were then printed by professional lithographers at Tamarind Institute in Albuquerque, NM.
