Michael Perry [2010, Graphic Design]
I am a Massachusetts based artist focused on monotype printmaking. Having grown up a short distance to the coast, the ocean, coastline and marine life have always been a strong influence. The prints I create begin with observational drawing and photography but are not exact geographical locations. The prints are a result of my sense to the subject or place, the scale and its connection to the source. I like the work to be open to interpretation, allowing the viewer to plug in their own experience with the deep blue.
My prints begin with a series of thumbnail sketches. After much exploration, I paint on a plexiglass plate using either oil or acrylic paints. I experiment constantly with different mark making techniques, from various brushes to a sharpened stick. Currently I use a hand held press to transfer the image. Using these varied methods within this medium has lead to work that is ever changing and evolving.
