Mingnah Ng [2028, Painting]
Mingnah Ng’s prints of her oil paintings are painted on wood, burlap, and canvas. Working with the unique texture of each surface, she layers intensely vivid colors that form dreamscapes of distorted shadows, elongated figures, and surreal perspectives; each piece is an exploration of a different way to paint. Her smaller physical pieces emphasize texture, negative space, and juxtaposition of delicacy and absurdity. Drawing from her upbringing in California’s Bay Area, Mingnah transforms the West Coast’s solar landscapes into metaphorical spaces of burning color, warped perspective, and bodily sensation; it is ultimately a place for reflections on childhood, the sublimity of nature, and a shared nostalgia.
