Colleen Hindarto Alford [1997, Architecture]

Born in Indonesia to a family of artists and designers, Colleen Hindarto Alford blends architectural design pedagogy with artistic intuition to craft exquisite fine jewelry. Founded in 2018, NONI, named after the Indonesian term of endearment for “girl,” celebrates individuality, personal storytelling, and the artistry of handcrafted design.
Her work is inspired by structures found in natural and sensory phenomena, exploring how form emerges and why certain shapes resonate so deeply. She balances structured investigation with intuitive exploration, examining symmetry, pattern, and mathematical sequencing in growth processes to guide her making while remaining open to discovery. Whether carving wax for lost-wax casting, folding paper, or using computer-aided design, each method contributes a distinct voice and becomes part of a piece’s identity. Her work aims to let each creation organically reveal its essence, reflecting an ongoing dialogue between inspiration, process, and material. NONI’s studio is located in Providence, Rhode Island.
