Laura Zakroff [2000, Printmaking]

My work explores the visionary realms of myth and magic through painting and drawing; largely traditional media (acrylic, ink, paper, wood) with some digital enhancement. I find inspiration in folklore, ritual, spirit, and dreams; weaving modern and ancient stories and symbols together. My art has evolved its own mythology and symbolic lexicon over the years, evoking the both the familiar and the fantastic through vibrant colors and intricate details. The juxtaposition of bright color paintings alongside monochromatic drawings perfectly reflects my diverse background and personality. In addition to being a visual artist, I am also an author and a dancer; both which influence how I see the world and seek to capture it through my work. I sell my original work, as well as hand-embellished giclee prints on wood, offset paper prints, and notecards to allow for a variety of price points. I have created two oracle decks; the first of which was released in June 2020 by Llewellyn Worldwide and has won several international awards. The second is due out Summer 2021 and is related to my best-selling book “Anatomy of a Witch”. I am currently working on creating a queer paper doll series that will be ready for the Spring event, reflecting a wide variety of ages, body types, and genders and made in my home studio.
