Richard Killeaney [MFA 2003, Textiles]
Ocheltree Design makes functional textile works that are repurposed, organic, and really good looking. The business started with quilts and pillows made from repurposed menswear apparel. This expanded into small leather goods including everyday leather tote bags, fantastical evening clutches, and fun and functional zip pouches. The work is minimal, modern, and designed to last. The design process starts with sustainability. The quilts are made with organic and repurposed cottons, usually shirting. The bags use entirely upcycled leather from apparel and upholstery sources. The silk scarves are created with natural dyes, many of which are locally grown and foraged. Everything is made by hand in Bridgeport, CT.
