Aleksandra Azbel [2014, Architecture]
Using a variety of textile patterning techniques such as eco-printing, immersion dyeing, and tie resist I make naturally dyed wall hangings, women’s clothes, and accessories. The image you see across my work is a direct imprint of seaweed steamed into the fabric. I then over-dye the print with color I extract from my own organically grown plants, such as indigo, marigold, and madder root. Some colors I sensitively forage in the wild, like sumac, and goldenrod; or, even derive from restaurant food waste -avocado pits.
