George Sawyer [2004, Industrial Design]
I grew up in the wood shavings in my father’s Windsor chair shop in South Woodbury, Vermont. Drawing on traditional green woodworking techniques, my work is rooted in the timelessness grace, functionality and the vernacular of the American Windsor tradition. Using woods that are local to my studio in rural Vermont I seek to explore the interconnection of the natural world and human effort, those things that can and cannot be controlled within the framework of functional forms.
