Stephanie Tyson Osorio [2019, Printmaking]
My main interest with my work is to explore ideas that relate to distance, tactility and mapping. Although I may be in a particular place taking in what is there, what I see, what I am hearing, what I am doing, I feel a flickering of being grounded and perceptive, yet also being up in the mind while always somehow being here. It is a constant back and forth that I strongly associate with the concepts terrestrial (as organic, earth, senses) and the celestial (as space, sky, mind). I re-interpret these ideas by using textural, organic and visually tactile materials and forms in my work, whether that is through the use of paper pulp, printmaking, writing, sculpture or sound. Surface and texture are often what I hone in on, as they help me anchor thoughts and ruminations of all these things to a tangible piece of art.
