Michelle Desveaux [1980, Textiles]

Using my own hand-carved blocks, I print cloth that I craft into items such as crossbody bags, market totes, pouches, table runners, pillows and quilts. In addition to block-printing and machine sewing, my techniques include hand-stitching, fabric collage (sometimes incorporating repurposed fabrics such as denim and vintage quilter’s cotton), piecing and quilting. I find inspiration from the textures and patterns I encounter in both natural and urban settings with a focus on weathered surfaces, fragments, relics, flora and architectural details. I love sharing my passion for pattern, color, art, and design by creating both unique hand-crafted items to be used and enjoyed everyday as well as individual works that stand alone.
