Tzu-Ju Chen [2000, Jewelry + Metalsmithing]

I make jewelry as a means of reconciliation between the internal and the external worlds. My work explores the conceptual play of material and meaning. I am material curious and combine various statuses of material in layers like a palimpsest. This intermingling of everyday and precious material in the format of jewelry examines the meaning and perceived value of jewelry. The concepts of my work come from an intimate place – objects that echo a sense of home against the backdrop of the world at large.
