Ian Henderson [2003, Jewelry/Metalsmithing]

I work with electrical insulation and forged aluminum wire to produce jewelry in rhythmic, flowing patterns of soft rubber plumes. Each curl, spine, or rubber segment is individually hand-cut and layered onto an aluminum armature. The designs start as forged wire ‘sketches’ which gradually come to life as layers of rubber accumulate in an incremental, intuitive process which mimics the growth patterns of living organisms. By inhabiting this growth process, I am able to generate designs emergently from the inside out.
